Message from the Superintendent - Novel Coronavirus - March 17, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today, the Minister of Education announced that effective immediately, all K-12 in-class instruction will be suspended until further notice due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Please see the attached letter from the Minister of Education for what we know as of now.
As a result, all schools in Richmond will NOT be open for in-class instruction after spring break. At this time, it is not known how long schools will be closed. We understand that parents and students will have many questions and we ask for your patience as we plan for next steps and await further details from the provincial government.
I want to assure you that the school district will do everything it can to ensure that students in Grade 12, who were on-track to graduate in June, will be able to do so. We will also be looking at ways the district can support students in other grades. As soon as the provincial government provides additional information, we will communicate directly with parents. The school district website and social media channels will also continue to provide updates.
At this time, our priority is on doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our students, their families and our staff members. We all have a role to play in addressing this world-wide health threat and the school district will take whatever steps are necessary. In the meantime, I ask for your patience as we work out the details moving forward.
