Div. 8: Map of my Heart

Reflection Frame for Evidence: Our Story

Name:  Mr. Beetstra

Division:   8

Describe the evidence:

Heart maps -  “What are the aspects in my life that makes me unique?”

Discussion – identity is made up of many interconnected aspects – such as life experiences, family history, heritage and peer group.

What are you learning regarding your evidence? What have you noticed through your scanning and observation?  What is going on for your learners?

All students are able to identify significant (and minor) aspects in their lives. These may include events, people, passions and likes. Many students identified cultural items and aspects of their heritage.

How is what you are learning now different from when you began in the fall?

In the fall, we focused on sameness/differences. I believe we are able to take pride in what makes us (and others) unique. There is still work to do, but I believe we have made progress in understanding differences and accepting those that are different.

What questions do you have moving forward?

How can I get the students to develop a love for community? What we can we do as a class to make a difference in our community? How does community involvement build identity?

What are some next steps you are considering?

Using individual talents and interests to work as a group towards building our community.
