Truth and Reconciliation

It is such an honour to be part of a community that has a lived experience of Truth and Reconciliation.  On Orange Shirt Day every class spend time learning about stories from the reality of residential schools in Canada. Students reflected on the importance of family bonds and immense impact that generations of indigenous people have had to bear due to their cultural identity being shamed and families being fractured.  It is our responsibility, as Canadians, educators and parents to walk the walk of reconciliation by engaging in the truth with our children.

Members of our staff furthered their understanding by gathering to have conversations.  Asking:

 "What is reconciliation?"

"Why does it matter?"

"Today is a day to tell our stories and to listen with open hearts... “     ~Phyllis Webstad
