Camp Jubilee: identity and belonging
Blair grade 6 and 7 students all went to Camp Jubilee in September 2019. Our staff used this opportunity to connect identity and belonging in a transparent and active way. Conversations during camp experiences, refection circles on the beach, journalling in the evenings and after we returned. It is evident that our learners were able to connect 1) how the experience positively impacted them 2) challenged them to learn new, previously unearthed, discoveries about themselves 3) connected them more deeply to their teachers and peers 4) and finally, how facing fear, when supported in community, brings you closer to yourself and to others.
These samples capture a few of the moments in reflection, in challenge, in community and in writing.
